PHOENIX — Testosterone replacement reverses insulin resistance in
hypogonadal men with type 2 diabetes, preliminary data suggest. The
findings, from a randomized trial in 81 men, were reported by Paresh
Dandona, MD, PhD, head of the division of endocrinology, diabetes, and
metabolism at the University of Buffalo, State University of New
York, at the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists 2013 Scientific & Clinical Congress last week.
"Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism [HH] in type 2
diabetes is a factor related to insulin resistance and may be
contributing to it. Administration of testosterone over a period of 6
months largely reverses that state of insulin resistance," said Dr.
Dandona.
